Deep tissue massage isn't just Swedish massage turned up a notch.  Deep Tissue at Soothing Moments incorporates an exclusive, hard-to-find Orthopedic Massage technique, Trigger Point Therapy, and Postural Balancing techniques.  The above create a powerful combination that effectively addresses stubborn, chronic musculo-skeletal pain allowing you to take control of your everyday comfort and well-being.

The more intense massage styles may initially cause slight soreness to the touch that lasts a couple of days but also results in noticeable pain relief. The pain some people experience from the first one or two deeper massage treatments is similar in character and intensity to delayed onset muscle soreness as if you had performed a vigorous workout.  Some people find the deeper nature of the massage itself results in a profound level of relaxation, more so than a traditional Swedish massage.

Trigger Point Therapy

A trigger point is an area within muscle tissue that is stuck in a constant state of contraction (spasm) which can cause pain in other parts of the body.  A trigger point in the back, may trigger pain in the neck.  The pain may be sharp and intense, prickly in nature or a dull, nagging ache.  Trigger points are caused by muscle overuse or injury and the pain is commonly mistaken for arthritis pain.

Trigger point work is specific and alleviates the source of the pain through cycles of isolated pressure and release.  Providing your massage therapist feedback on your comfort level while receiving trigger point therapy is essential in achieving the best results possible.

The result of trigger point massage is believed to be a result of an interruption in communication between the spinal cord and muscle tissue, breaking the pain-spasm-pain cycle.  A significant decrease in pain is often found after just one treatment.

Orthopedic Massage

It's guaranteed this profoundly effective, accurate treatment will be hard to find in many therapist's offices in the far west suburban area.  Your massage therapist at Soothing Moments has completed 135 hours of specialized training in assessing and treating chronic pain and tension of common musculoskeletal injuries.

In these cases, if your condition has been treated to maximum medical benefit through insurance covered providers such as chiropractors, orthopedists, and physical therapists, and you still experience pain or discomfort, orthopedic massage might be just what you're looking for to manage any remaining issues, or to assist in the recovery process along the way.

Insurance often limits the hands on soft tissue treatments that most find beneficial in providing pain relief when recovering from an injury or accident.  Once the maximum number of covered treatments has been met, your care provider will move on to other techniques for managing your condition.  This doesn't mean more benefit can't be obtained from having the soft tissue work performed, it simply means insurance won't cover the cost anymore.  An independent massage therapist is the best qualified person to continue where the other providers are required to move on to other forms of treatment.

If you've been treated for a past injury, have residual discomfort or pain and are ready to try another approach to manage or eliminate it, schedule an orthopedic assessment and massage and experience how much these specialized massage techniques can improve your life and function.

This is a valuable technique that brings the pain relieving aspects of massage therapy to a higher level.

Postural Balancing

A unique approach to massage guided by visual and manual cues, the goal of this massage is to address symmetrical imbalances from head to toe in order to guide the body into a better alignment.  Techniques used include gentle stretching and traditional relaxation massage applied with a strategic focus after assessing patterns of habitual tension held throughout the body.  This is a great starting point if you're new to therapeutic massage, looking to experience more than relaxation and interested in relieving or preventing chronic pain patterns from developing in the future.

Barefoot Ashiatsu Massage

This is the newest and most exciting addition to the deep tissue techniques. This massage is done with the feet while the therapist stands on the table supported by bars on the ceiling. This is a luxuriously deep pressure massage and the perfect style for those who like deep, non-specific bodywork without the sharpness that can sometimes be experienced with deep elbow or thumb pressure.

If you have had a hard time finding a therapist that can get deep enough for your tastes, or you just want a deep pressure massage without the focused trigger point work, Barefoot Ashiatsu massage is what you crave. For just $5 more, you can treat yourself or someone else to what has been described as the "deepest, most luxurious massage on the planet."
