Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a system of specialized massage techniques performed in a predetermined sequence based on your personal situation, that increases the rate of flow of lymph out of your lymphatic vessels and into your general circulation.  The lymphatic system is the body's system of vessels, nodes and fluid responsible for fighting infections and removing waste and cellular debris from the tissue spaces into the circulatory system.

Lymphatic fluid contains water, dead cell and bacteria parts, immune cells, antibodies, and cellular waste. By stimulating the natural pumping action of the lymphatic vessels in a specific sequence, the rate of removal of waste products from the body's tissue spaces speeds up and can aid in helping the body clean up after an infection or other injury. If you have been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency or lymphedema, regular manual lymphatic drainage sessions combined with complete decongestive therapy (MLD-CDT) have been shown to greatly reduce the number and severity of dangerous skin infections and excess fluid accumulation. MLD-CDT is also a valuable addition to a wound care program for slowly healing or non-healing wounds.

A nice side benefit of lymphatic drainage is it's incredibly relaxing and gentle.  You won't believe what this amazingly light pressure will do for some of the most stubborn chronic conditions.  It's also the perfect massage if you've been suffering with fibromyalgia and are unable to tolerate traditional massages like Swedish or Deep Tissue.

If you've been suffering from allergies, sinus infections, swelling following surgery or injury, have poor circulation or diabetes, stubborn swelling following cosmetic surgery, have lymphedema from radiation or cancer treatment, or have been diagnosed with lipidema, lymphatic drainage massage can speed up the healing process by reducing excess fluid and cellular waste accumulation.

If you suspect you may have lymphedema, please don't hesitate to schedule an evaluation or assessment.  Early treatment is essential for preventing a potentially disfiguring and irreversible future condition as well as life threatening infections.
